Downtown LA Restaurants : Cow Cafe
342 W Pico Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90015
PRICE RANGE: $
If I had a dollar for every time someone from out of town asked me “Where should I eat in L.A ?” , I would definitely have enough money for numerous slices of avocado toast and bottomless mimosas at brunch .
For those of you who live in LA and want to try something new or if you are just visiting and need a list of good eateries - I’ve decided to start sharing my favorite places to eat in Los Angeles …feel free to send me a dollar if you like my suggestions.
Last Sunday my friend Becca and I walked over to one of my new favorite spots, the Cow Cafe . This tiny restaurant on the corner of Pico Blvd & S Grand Ave has a vegetarian and mediterranean inspired menu with portion sizes that will leave you feeling more than satisfied.
I ordered a Chai Latte while we waited for our food to come out. Although I’ve had a few amazing lattes in L.A. , and wouldn’t rave about it to someone looking for a good chai recommendation, It was good and would definitely order it again.
For brunch I ordered their avocado toast (of course). Made with an organic egg, delicious house aioli, a sprinkle of chives, cilantro, spices & sesame seeds with a side of arugula salad - I always find myself forcing down the last few bites when i’m full because I refuse to let it go to waste. Their country bread is extremely thick, yet soft and airy, and is half the reason why this is my favorite avocado toast in Los Angeles.
Becca’s go-to item on the menu is the Ginger Spinach Scramble. Made with 3 organic scrambled eggs, spinach, ginger, garlic, cotija cheese, cilantro & sesame seeds with a side of thick buttered toast. This interesting combination of flavors is also worth a try .
If you are in the area and want an affordable bite to eat, stop at the Cow Cafe and have a cup of coffee. And whatever you do , don’t leave without having a slice of avocado toast.
